Presentation Abstract
Alzheimer’s Disease: Integrative Prevention & Cognitive Optimization
Alzheimer’s disease is increasingly recognised as a life-course disorder, with pathological changes beginning decades before the onset of clinical symptoms. While disease-modifying therapies offer new hope for selected individuals, population-level strategies to reduce dementia burden must prioritise prevention and optimisation of brain health.
This lecture will explore an evidence-based integrative approach that combines vascular risk reduction, healthy lifestyle interventions, cognitive and social engagement, physical activity, nutrition, sleep optimisation, and management of sensory impairment within a framework of healthy ageing. Emerging advances in blood-based biomarkers, neuroimaging, digital technologies, and artificial intelligence will also be discussed, highlighting their potential to enable personalised risk assessment and earlier intervention.
Drawing on recent international evidence and research from Malaysia, the presentation will demonstrate how multidisciplinary, person-centred strategies can enhance cognitive resilience, delay cognitive decline, and support healthy longevity.
The session will conclude by considering future directions for precision brain health and the translation of research into clinical practice and public health.
