Presentation Abstract

Parkinson’s Disease Across the Continuum: Medical & Lifestyle Management

Day 3 · 22nd August 2026 · 11:15 AM

Parkinson’s disease (PD) is increasingly recognized not merely as a movement disorder, but as a complex multisystem neurodegenerative condition spanning a broad continuum of motor, cognitive, metabolic, immune, and autonomic dysfunction. Emerging evidence highlights the role of mitochondrial impairment, neuroinflammation, gut–brain axis dysregulation, oxidative stress, environmental toxicants, and epigenetic modifications in shaping disease onset and progression. This evolving understanding calls for a more integrative and personalized therapeutic framework that extends beyond symptomatic dopaminergic replacement.

This lecture explores Parkinson’s disease across the continuum—from prodromal manifestations and early biomarker recognition to advanced-stage neurodegeneration—while integrating contemporary medical management with evidence-informed lifestyle and functional medicine strategies. The session will review conventional pharmacological approaches including levodopa-based therapy, dopamine agonists, MAO-B inhibitors, device-assisted therapies, and neuromodulation, alongside discussions on emerging regenerative and immunomodulatory interventions currently under investigation.

Particular emphasis will be placed on lifestyle based neuroprotection. Topics will include the impact of exercise-induced neuroplasticity, sleep optimization, circadian regulation, metabolic health, ketogenic and anti-inflammatory dietary strategies, microbiome modulation, stress reduction, environmental detoxification, and targeted nutritional interventions. Recent research surrounding the gut–brain axis, vagal signaling, alpha-synuclein propagation, and the role of systemic inflammation in disease progression will also be discussed.

Drawing from a precision-neurology perspective, the lecture aims to bridge cutting-edge neuroscience with practical clinical application. The presentation advocates for a multidimensional model of care in which neurologists, rehabilitation specialists, nutrition experts, and lifestyle medicine practitioners collaboratively address both symptoms and disease-modifying pathways.

By reframing Parkinson’s disease as a dynamic neuroimmune-metabolic disorder existing along a continuum, this talk seeks to inspire clinicians toward more comprehensive, individualized, and future-oriented management strategies capable of improving both longevity and quality of life in patients with Parkinson’s disease.
