From Cortex to Cellular Signalling: A Structural and mTOR-Based Model of Autism
Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is primarily diagnosed through behavioural observation, with limited insight into underlying biology. This presentation introduces an integrative framework linking cortical function with cellular signalling to understand autism as a neurobiological condition. Central to this model is the mechanistic target of rapamycin (mTOR), a regulator of synaptic development, immune activity, and metabolism, integrating inputs from nutrients, inflammation, and environmental exposures.
The interaction between environment and epigenetic regulation will also be discussed. Neurophysiological assessment is presented as a complementary tool. Clinical case studies demonstrate how this approach supports more personalised, biologically informed interventions.
